North Country Auctions began with humble roots in 2002, when founder Charlie Ames launched his auction business in Tamworth, New Hampshire. Before stepping into the auction world, Charlie spent more than 25 years working with Sanders and Mark Development, a company renowned for building hotels, resorts, and golf courses across New Hampshire. During that time, Charlie was entrusted with the acquisition and sale of all heavy machinery and tools used by the development crews. This responsibility honed his expertise in both product and process, laying the foundation for his future success in auctions.

As the company grew, Charlie welcomed Larry Spellman, mentoring him in every aspect of the auction world—from consignments and liquidations to retirement sales, property auctions, and everything in between. Larry’s boundless energy and drive to expand the business perfectly complemented Charlie’s seasoned knowledge and steady leadership.

In 2008, Larry purchased North Country Auctions, ushering in a new era of growth and expansion. Under his ownership, the company broadened its reach and reputation, while Charlie remained actively involved—continuing to work, mentor, and grow the business alongside Larry. Their combined vision and dedication transformed North Country Auctions from a regional operation into a powerhouse with a national and international footprint.

Today, North Country Auctions proudly conducts auctions across New England, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, South Carolina, and even as far as Santiago, Chile. Their reach reflects not only geographic expansion but also the trust and loyalty they’ve earned from consignors and buyers alike.
